We are born Gay. The brains of gay men respond more like women's when they react to a male sex hormone according to a new study that adds to the debate over nature versus nurture. The study was conducted by researchers at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Fifty years earlier, in his 1948 book, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male, Alfred Kinsey shocked the world by announcing that 10% of the male population is gay. A 1993 Janus Report estimated that nine percent of men and five percent of women had more than "occasional" homosexual relationships.

Did God create us as Gays? According to Singapore's mainstream conservative Christian Churches , God created Adam and Eve and not Adam and 'Steve'. However, in Gen 2:20, we see that God created only Adam and that only out of Adam came Eve. Adam is physically male but inwardly he is bisexual. Only in the last century, that science confirmed this very fact. A human cell carries 48 chromosomes, two of which are the sex chromosomes. Females have two X chromosomes, and males have one X and one Y. The egg cells produced by a woman each carry a single X chromosome. The sperm cells produced by a man also carry a single sex chromosome; half of the sperm carry an X, and half carry a Y. This means that the sperm cell determines the sex of a baby. There is no biblical basis that being Gay is against nature, against God's plan as out of Adam's loins, out of his genetic pool, came Woman and similarly can produce Gays and lesbians.

The discrimination against Gays is a new development arising only in the last 1000 years. During the 1st century when the bible was written, there was no specific term given to homosexuals by the Romans. The word was only coined by German psychologist in the late 19th century. Gay marriages were also legal and frequent in Rome for both males and females. Even emperors often married other males. There was total acceptance. Paul mention of male prostitution in pagan worship which was widespread was totally misinterpreted by the modern day church as referring to homosexuals. No one in the early Roman world seemed to feel that the fact that someone preferred his or her own gender was any more significant than the fact that someone preferred blue eyes. As late as the eleventh centuries, there appears to be no conflict between a Christian life and homosexuality. Gay life was everywhere in the art, poetry, music, history, etc. Therefore the Churches homophobic postion today is something new and post early Christian thinking and theology.

In the 11th century, there after a great upsurge in popular intolerance of gay people. Coinciding with this period, there begin "The Inquisition", the persecution of the reformers, those who voiced out against the increasing departure from the Gospel by the esthablished Catholic church. Pope Innocent III instituted a number of inquisitors, or persons who were to make inquiry after, apprehend, and punish, heretics, as the reformed were called by the papists. Courts of Inquisition were now erected in several countries; but the Spanish Inquisition became the most powerful, and the most dreaded of any. In 1244, Emperor Frederic II, declared himself the protector and friend of all the inquisitors, and published the cruel edicts, 1. That all heretics who continue obstinate, should be burnt. 2. That all heretics who repented, should be imprisoned for life. The public circulation of the Bible was banned by the church from the common people for the next 700 years, essentially replacing the Christian Gospel with man made religion and traditions. The reformation by Martin Lurther in the 16th century started the reformation, and it took them another 400 years to unlearnt many of the wrong teaching taught by the church. It was only in the last 20 years that the Church came to understand the basics of Christianity such as the Gospel of Grace, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. On Homosexuality, the position taken by the Christian mainstream church in Singapore is all rooted in traditions and the thinking of the dark ages when the church went into deception.

It is a tragedy that the Christian Church in Singapore have spent so much of their time and energy on this issue of homosexuality, not even realizing from history that they are affirming a position not based on the bible but on traditions and practices arising from the dark ages. It is a double tragedy because the focus is taken away from preaching of the Gospel, and in their opposition against Gays, they have made Christianity an oppressive religion.

The Christian Right has rejected many of the scientific studies asserting that they are not 100% conclusive. Conversely however, they have not applied nor demanded the same measure of proof to their assertions that all males are hard wired heterosexuality at birth. Religion has so clouded people's minds that they could no longer make a fair judgement. The Christian Right has never proved that Heterosexuality is a lifestyle choice. Just as you don't choose to be straight, you also don't choose to be gay.

All creation was created for God's pleasure, and to show forth His glory. God need not have created mankind. It has cost him much. it has cost him His son Jesus Christ. When we condemn Gays, we show our ingratitute to God's work of creation. He created Gays as a very special people, with different strenghts and unique calling. As Gay Christian, we need to accept by faith of who God created us as. In the face of almost unilaterial opposition, let us keep on trusting in God. Let us trust God that He has created us wonderfully as Gays.

God knew you as a Gay before you were born (Psa 139:13-16). It was not by chance that you were born Gay. God already has a plan for you and they are good. Don't despise being Gay and think that you have been given a raw deal. But embrace Jesus, and in Christ you will find peace and the purpose for your life.

The way to the cross for Jesus was a lonely walk. The crowds including the religious zealots were pelting insults, curses, and conmdemnation all the way. Our walk as Gays has been a walk of loneliness. We have been pelted at all sides, forced to defend at every point. Hurt and wounded and indeed many have fallen.

Thus saith the Lord, "I Have loved you with an everlasting love. My arms are open wide. Come, come and drink from me. I will be there for you. You will not be lonely says the Lord. For I the Lord will walk with you. I have created you as Gays for a purpose and my plans for you is to bless and prosper you and not to hurt you. I will stand by you"
